About This Access Site
The Kirkpatrick Dam Boat Ramp provides a two-lane paved launch on the southeastern side of Rodman Dam in Putnam County, offering excellent access to the lower Ocklawaha River. This facility includes paved parking, potable water, restrooms, and picnic pavilions—making it a well-developed put-in for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The ramp accesses 8 miles of scenic river below the dam down to its confluence with the St. Johns River, approximately 11 miles downstream.

Paddlers launching here will find the lower Ocklawaha River offers deeper water (up to 30 feet in sections) compared to upstream areas, with generally calm, manageable conditions suitable for most skill levels. Keep in mind that Rodman Reservoir undergoes drawdowns every 3-4 years for aquatic plant control and habitat management, which may temporarily affect water levels. A convenient take-out point is located at Johnson Field Boat Ramp at Highway 19 in the Caravelle Ranch Wildlife Management Area, making a one-way paddling trip possible.

Lake Delancy West Campground is available nearby (within 10 miles) for overnight camping needs, offering a full-service option for extended paddling trips in the area.
