Located in Phelps, Wisconsin, this public boat ramp provides convenient access to one of the largest lakes on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The ramp features a large paved parking lot and is situated on the west shore of Lac Vieux Desert Lake near the campground and picnic facilities. This makes it an ideal launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters.
Lac Vieux Desert is a substantial 4,017-acre lake with a maximum depth of 38 feet, offering plenty of room for paddling and exploration. The lake is shared between Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, so anglers should review border lake fishing regulations. The lake is known for musky, walleye, bass, and northern pike, making it popular for fishing year-round. The Spectacle Lake Campground is available nearby (about 10 miles away) for those planning an extended trip.
The ramp's excellent access and ample parking make launching easy for boats of various sizes. Paddlers should be aware that this is a larger lake suitable for intermediate to experienced boaters, and conditions can vary depending on weather and season.
