Lafayette Reservoir offers a convenient boat ramp for kayakers, canoeists, and small boat owners in the East Bay area. The reservoir is an all-year, day-use recreation area located just off Highway 24, about a mile from the Lafayette BART station.
Personal, car-top boats such as kayaks and canoes may be launched from the park-opening until 3:00 pm, with a $4 one-day launch fee and a $6 Zebra/Quagga mussel inspection fee (good for 30 days). All boats must check in at the Visitor Center and be off the water when the Visitor Center closes. Stand-up paddle boards are not permitted.
Privately owned rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and sailboats (no gasoline engines) are allowed on the reservoir, with a fee for boat registration. Rowboats and pedal boats can also be rented on-site. The reservoir provides a scenic setting for paddling, with the added convenience of a boat ramp, docks, and a bait shop. Anglers will find the reservoir well-stocked for fishing.
