Lake Fort Phantom Hill offers excellent access for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters via multiple public boat ramps around this 4,213-acre reservoir near Abilene. The lake's maximum depth of 66 feet provides reliable water conditions year-round, though water levels can fluctuate seasonally. When the lake is at full pool, four boat ramps are available; additional ramps at Johnson Park provide access during low-water periods.
The South Public Boat Ramp, available year-round, features multiple launch lanes, a courtesy dock, lighted parking for 50 vehicles, and picnic facilities—making it well-suited for both day trips and group outings. Johnson Park also offers a dedicated kayak trail along with additional amenities including restrooms, pavilions, and parking. The impoundment on Elm Creek provides a calm-water paddling environment ideal for recreational kayaking and canoeing.
**Important reminder:** Texas law requires that all watercraft, trailers, livewells, and gear be cleaned, drained, and dried before leaving the lake to prevent the spread of invasive zebra mussels. Possession and transport of zebra mussels is illegal.
