**Overview & Access**
Lake Hawkins at Dam is Wood County's premier boat ramp facility, located on Little Sandy Creek (a Sabine River tributary) approximately 4 miles northwest of Hawkins. This 633-acre impoundment offers one of the best-maintained launch points on the lake, with ample parking and a dedicated boat ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorized vessels. The facility is operated by Wood County Parks and includes a full-service recreation area.
**Facilities & Amenities**
Beyond the boat launch, the dam site offers comprehensive amenities including a fishing pier, sandy beach, RV and tent camping areas, picnic facilities, volleyball courts, and rental cabins. The lake's maximum depth of 30 feet and relatively calm waters make it suitable for recreational paddling and fishing. A grocery store and additional services are available in nearby Hawkins. Site-specific camping reservations can be made through the county parks system.
**Paddling Conditions**
As an impoundment created in 1962, Lake Hawkins provides calm, protected water ideal for beginners and family paddling. Confirm current water levels before launching, as minimum lake elevation affects ramp usability. This location is popular for fishing tournaments and water sports, so expect moderate recreational traffic during peak seasons.
