About This Access Site
Located 3 miles northwest of Mineola in Wood County, the West access point provides a free public boat ramp on Lake Holbrook, a 653-acre reservoir impounded on Lankford Creek (a tributary of the Sabine River). This is one of two public access areas available on the lake, making it a convenient launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The lake offers a maximum depth of 30 feet and features flooded timber, boat houses, and brush piles that provide some cover, though habitat improvement efforts have been ongoing since 2006 to establish native aquatic vegetation.

The relatively calm, still-water environment makes Lake Holbrook suitable for paddlers of all skill levels. A swimming beach is located near the dam, adding recreational options for visitors. Note that while the lake offers good water access, there are no public fishing piers available if you're planning a fishing-focused outing. Before launching, paddlers should check current water conditions and be aware of any motorboat traffic, particularly on weekends.
