About This Access Site
**Overview**
Lake McMaster is a 165-acre impoundment located south of Route 167 near Victoria in Knox County, IL, and is part of Snakeden Hollow State Fish and Wildlife Area. This is the only lake within the wildlife area that features an improved boat ramp, making it the primary launch point for motorized and non-motorized watercraft in the area. The lake has a maximum depth of 65 feet with 7.5 miles of shoreline and a narrow eastern arm, offering diverse paddling opportunities.

**Practical Information for Paddlers**
With its relatively modest size and protected setting within a state wildlife area, Lake McMaster is well-suited for kayaking and canoeing. The improved boat ramp provides convenient vehicle access for launching. Be aware that this area functions as a waterfowl refuge and hunting area, so check current restrictions and seasons before visiting. The lake's reasonable dimensions—roughly 1.4 miles of centerline—make it manageable for a day paddle, though the narrow eastern arm offers more sheltered exploration for those seeking quieter waters.
