Located at the western end of Lake Michigamme in Michigamme, this boat ramp provides public access to one of Michigan's largest lakes, spanning 4,292 acres across Marquette and Baraga counties. The ramp serves as a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to explore the lake and connect to the Peshekee River watershed. The western portion of the lake features primarily sandy bottom with fewer obstacles, making it more suitable for paddling compared to the rocky, debris-laden eastern end.
Lake Michigamme reaches depths exceeding 70 feet, so boaters should come prepared for deeper water conditions. The ramp itself doesn't have a loading dock, so hand-launching or using a trailer may be necessary depending on your vessel type. This access point is one of several public launches available on the lake; paddlers should note that Van Riper State Park also provides alternative access points with additional amenities. The site works well as a starting point for exploring the scenic Peshekee River system and the broader Lake Michigamme watershed.
