About This Access Site
The Lake of Egypt boat ramp in Egyptian Hills, Johnson County, is a public access point for recreational boating and paddling on this 2,400-acre impoundment in southern Illinois. This is a developed facility offering convenient launch access for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats of all sizes. The ramp is privately operated and charges a nominal launch fee; the facility also offers boat rentals, marine supplies, propane, and amenities for day-use visitors.

Lake of Egypt is a popular destination for fishing and recreation, with healthy populations of bluegill, bass, and crappie. The lake is open to public access and accommodates all boat motor types. Being a controlled impoundment, water levels and conditions are relatively stable compared to flowing rivers, making it an accessible option for paddlers of varying skill levels. The nearby Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge offers additional exploration opportunities in the region for nature-focused recreation.
