Lake Owen

Located near Albany in the Pole Mountain area of Albany County, the Lake Owen boat ramp provides direct water access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The ramp is situated close to Lake Owen Campground and is accessible via the Medicine Bow Rail Trail. Note that there is a launch ramp available but no dock facility, so hand-launching may be necessary depending on water levels and conditions.

Lake Owen is a scenic alpine destination offering good fishing opportunities for brook trout, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout. The area experiences significant seasonal changes—winter conditions require high-clearance or 4WD vehicles to navigate snow banks, and ice thickness varies considerably across the lake. Paddlers should plan accordingly for the season and check current conditions before visiting, particularly regarding snow access and water temperature.
