About This Access Site
Lake Sakakawea State Park in Garrison offers convenient boat ramp access to one of North Dakota's largest reservoirs. The park features two ramps: a multi-lane option on the west side and a single-lane ramp on the southeast side, both with courtesy docks available. This is an excellent day-use facility for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to launch onto the expansive 178-mile-long lake with its 1,340 miles of scenic shoreline.

The area provides good amenities for paddlers, including bathroom facilities and fish cleaning stations. With three reservable campgrounds within 10 miles (East Totten Trail, Wolf Creek, and Downstream), visitors can plan overnight trips. Lake Sakakawea offers calm, protected paddling in many areas with plenty of opportunities to explore coves and anchor points along the Missouri River reservoir.

Note that ramp conditions can be affected by weather events and water level changes, so conditions may vary seasonally. The park is easily accessible from Garrison in McLean County, making it a practical launching point for exploring this large recreational waterway.
