Lake Sakakawea State Park near Garrison offers excellent boat ramp access to one of North Dakota's premier water recreation destinations. The park features two dedicated boat ramps—a multi-lane ramp on the west side and a single-lane ramp on the southeast side—both equipped with courtesy docks for user convenience. This access point is ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to explore the massive reservoir.
Lake Sakakawea spans 178 miles with an impressive 1,340 miles of shoreline, providing plenty of protected coves, scenic areas, and anchoring opportunities for all skill levels. The Garrison location offers easy access to the water and basic amenities including bathroom facilities. Several campgrounds are located within 10 miles of the ramp, including East Totten Trail, Wolf Creek, and Downstream campgrounds, making it convenient for overnight trips.
