Lake Sakakawea State Park near Garrison offers excellent boat ramp access to North Dakota's largest reservoir. The park features two ramps: a multi-lane option on the west side and a single-lane ramp on the southeast side, with courtesy docks available at both locations. This is a popular day-use area with bathroom facilities and additional amenities including fish cleaning stations.
Lake Sakakawea spans 178 miles in length with over 1,340 miles of scenic shoreline, providing extensive paddling and boating opportunities. The reservoir offers calm, protected waters ideal for kayakers and canoeists of all skill levels. For overnight stays, two nearby campgrounds—East Totten Trail and Wolf Creek—are reservable and located within 10 miles. The area is conveniently situated just outside Riverdale off Highway 200, making it accessible for day trips or extended outings. Note that ramp conditions can vary seasonally; heavy rain or flood events may temporarily affect usability.
