About This Access Site
Lake Springfield offers excellent recreational paddling and boating opportunities with convenient public access. The lake features four free concrete boat ramps available to the public, making it easy to launch kayaks, canoes, and motorized boats. Located on a 3,866-acre reservoir created in 1931, the lake has an average depth of 13 feet and maximum depth of approximately 30 feet, providing good conditions for various water activities. The lake is bordered by 57 miles of shoreline with eight public parks and additional public docks.

All boats and watercraft must be registered and licensed according to City of Springfield and State of Illinois requirements before use. Note that certain areas of the lake are marked with "no boat" buoys and are off-limits to watercraft. The lake attracts over 600,000 visitors annually and is surrounded by several recreational amenities, including the Henson Robinson Zoo, Lincoln Memorial Garden, and multiple dining and cultural venues. Trailer storage is available at the marina for those who need it.
