Lake Stephen (Winter)

**Location & Access:** The winter boat launch for Lake Stephen is located just past the dam on Dam Drive, near Surveyor in Raleigh County, West Virginia. A personal kayak and paddleboard launch is also available next to the dam, providing convenient access for paddlers. The site is situated nine miles west of Beckley and approximately 25 minutes from New River Gorge National Park.

**Seasonal Availability & Hours:** This winter access point operates seasonally from **October 1st through April 30th, from 9 AM to 9 PM**. The lake itself offers year-round recreational opportunities during the main park season (May 1st–September 30th), with expanded water access during the winter months through this dedicated launch. Paddlers and boaters should plan their visits within these seasonal windows.

**What to Expect:** Lake Stephen supports diverse fishing opportunities including bluegill, catfish, walleye, and bass, making it popular with anglers and recreational boaters alike. Shoreline fishing is available at the dam, while boat fishing is permitted throughout the lake in designated boating areas. Note that alcoholic beverages are prohibited within Lake Stephen Park.
