Located 3 miles south of Taylorville in Christian County, Lake Taylorville offers a public boat ramp for easy water access. The 1,286-acre lake features a marina with fueling stations, public docks, and a boat launch ramp. Additional amenities nearby include bait and tackle shops, restaurants, and a public beach. The site is part of a larger recreational area with two public parks (Optimist and Kiwanis) offering picnicking and family facilities.
**Paddling Conditions:** Lake Taylorville is quite shallow, with an average depth of only 7 feet, requiring careful operation of watercraft—especially in the upper end of the lake. The lake was rehabilitated in the 1990s with silt retention basins installed to improve water quality. Boating and fishing are available almost year-round, though camping is seasonal (April 1–October 31). Kayakers and canoeists should be mindful of shallow water conditions and exercise caution when exploring, particularly in areas upstream from the main lake body.
