Lake Terrell is a year-round paddling destination located 5 miles west of Ferndale in Whatcom County, about 10 miles northwest of Bellingham. Access the site via Lake Terrell Road off Slater Road (Exit 260 on I-5). The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife maintains two launch options: a concrete boat ramp with dock at the headquarters area on the west shore, and a gravel ramp at the east end of the shore road. Both ramps provide good access for kayaks, canoes, and larger boats.
**Important regulations:** Lake Terrell operates under a no-wake rule for the entire lake, making it an ideal location for paddlers seeking calm water conditions. The site includes a fishing dock and pier, shoreline access, and nearby birding trails within the Lake Terrell Wildlife Area. Note that fishing from the dock near the concrete ramp is not permitted. Be aware of WDFW hunting season closures—check their website before visiting during fall and winter months. This is primarily a fishing and wildlife viewing destination, offering a peaceful paddling experience on protected waters.
