Lake Thompson Land Use Area

Located in the southeast portion of Lake Thompson Recreation Area near De Smet, this boat ramp provides access to Lake Thompson, a popular fishing and recreation destination in eastern South Dakota. The ramp is situated within a full-service recreation area that includes campgrounds, day-use parking, and amenities like drinking water and fish-cleaning stations, making it convenient for extended outings.

Paddlers and boaters should be aware that this area can experience congestion, particularly at the junction of the campground loops and day-use areas during peak times. The recreation area offers diverse recreational opportunities, including fishing for walleye, northern pike, crappie, perch, and bass. Additional amenities include biking trails, a playground, and a park tour trail.
