Lake Whatcom South is a public boat ramp located at the Lake Whatcom Firehall on the south end of the lake near Sedro-Woolley, providing access to the more remote southern portion of this popular paddling destination. The launch features a gravel ramp and gravel parking area, making it suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorized boats.
**Important Requirements:** Before launching, boaters must obtain a valid AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) permit, which is required year-round on Lake Whatcom. Additionally, a Washington State Discover Pass or F&W sticker is required for parking. Boat inspections are also mandatory at Lake Whatcom access points. Be aware that Silver Lake (connected to the system) has a 10 horsepower motor restriction.
The south end location provides paddlers with access to quieter waters away from the more developed north shore, making it ideal for kayakers and canoeists seeking a more peaceful paddling experience. For current hours of operation, AIS permit availability, and vessel inspection appointments, contact the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife directly.
