About This Access Site
Located in LeFlore County's San Bois Mountains, this boat ramp provides access to Wister Lake on the Poteau River, Oklahoma's only northward-flowing river. The park offers both lighted and unlighted boat ramp options, making it suitable for day and evening paddling. Multiple amenities including comfort stations with showers, picnic areas, and a swimming beach make this a well-developed recreation site for families and day-trippers.

The Poteau River feeds into Wister Lake, a scenic impoundment in the Ouachita Mountains. For kayakers and canoeists, expect moderate current conditions on the river itself (averaging 3.24 feet per second with a 4.4 ft/mile gradient). The lake provides calmer paddling conditions, while the river upstream offers more dynamic conditions. The large drainage area (1,884 square miles) supports healthy water levels, and the park is known for excellent fishing opportunities including northern bluegill and other species from both boat ramps and shoreline fishing docks.

D&J Bait N Grub is conveniently located nearby (25816 US-270, Wister, OK) for any last-minute supplies or information about current conditions.
