About This Access Site
Located in Johnston on Big Creek embayment of Saylorville Lake, the Lakeview High Water ramp provides access to one of the most popular boating areas in central Iowa. This high-water launch point remains operational during periods when lower ramps are closed due to rising water levels, making it a reliable option during wet conditions. For more information or to confirm current conditions, contact the Lake View Recreation Area at 515-276-4656.

Big Creek is known as a premier fishing and paddling destination within the 26,000-acre Saylorville Lake, which stretches over 50 miles up the Des Moines River Valley. Paddlers and boaters can explore multiple coves and embayments, and the area supports excellent fishing for crappie, walleye, and bluegill. Note that parking may be limited during high-water periods when other ramps are closed, so arriving early is recommended. The nearby Lake View Recreation Area offers additional amenities and camping options for visitors planning extended stays.
