Leighton Park

Leighton Park is a county-owned public access point on the South Fork of the St. Lucie River in Palm City, offering convenient launch facilities for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The ramp features three concrete launching lanes (approximately 20 feet wide), courtesy docks, and ample parking with 20 dedicated boat trailer spaces. The facility also includes picnic tables and restrooms, making it a comfortable spot for a full day on the water.

This access point is best suited for paddlers already on the river or those launching motorized craft, as portaging kayaks or canoes from the parking area would be challenging. The South Fork of the St. Lucie River is a scenic, relatively sheltered paddling destination with opportunities to explore this subtropical river system. The nearby Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge offers additional exploration opportunities and protects pristine natural habitat in the region.
