About This Access Site
Lochloosa Park provides public access to Lochloosa Lake, a large 5,700-acre lake located about 5 miles south of Hawthorne in Alachua County. The park features a dedicated boat ramp for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. The facility includes picnic areas with both covered and uncovered tables, a boardwalk, and a gazebo ideal for wildlife viewing and shoreline observation.

The lake is characterized by scenic old-growth cypress trees lining most of the shoreline and shallow waters filled with aquatic vegetation including knotgrass and spatterdock (water lilies). Paddlers should be aware that the lake supports an abundant alligator population, so exercise appropriate caution and distance when observing wildlife. The park offers nearly 450 feet of undeveloped shoreline access, making it a peaceful setting for paddling and nature exploration. For specific information about ramp conditions, hours of operation, and any applicable fees, contact Alachua County Parks and Recreation at (352) 374-5245.
