Lock Haven Boat Access (also known as Lockport Launch Park or Woodward Township Access) is located in Clinton County on the West Branch Susquehanna River near Lock Haven, PA. The site features a paved boat ramp with ample parking, making it a convenient launch or take-out point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The access is situated across the river from the town of Lock Haven, providing good vehicle access to the water.
The West Branch Susquehanna River in this area is characterized by calm, scenic paddling with very limited Class I rapids, making it suitable for paddlers of various skill levels. The section from Lock Haven downriver is generally less crowded than areas near town on weekends. Paddlers should note that motorboat traffic typically cannot proceed far upstream past the low spot near the black bridge, so stretches downstream offer more isolated paddling. This is an excellent area to observe historical remnants of the Susquehanna Boom, once the largest on the West Branch.
For multi-vehicle trips, plan shuttle logistics carefully—nearby take-outs include PFBC Pine Access (about 7 miles downstream) and PFBC Linden Access (further downriver at river mile 45.4). As always, secure vehicle keys in a dry bag before paddling. The nearby Bald Eagle State Park offers additional recreation opportunities including camping, picnic areas, and a marina at Foster Joseph Sayers Dam.
