The Long Lake Public Access at the Long Lake Recreation Area is the **only public boat launch on Long Lake**, making it an essential stop for paddlers and boaters in the Phelps area. This 423-acre lake features a well-maintained paved ramp with a 3 ft launch depth and boarding dock, suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. The ramp has a 7% slope for easy launching. A daily launch fee of $5 applies (seasonal passes available for $20), and ADA-accessible parking is provided.
Long Lake offers excellent fishing opportunities year-round, with populations of northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish, and crappie. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 47 feet with moderately clear water, making it ideal for both paddling and fishing. The site is conveniently located near two reservable campgrounds—Kentuck Lake and Spectacle Lake—within 10 miles, making it an excellent base for a multi-day paddling or fishing trip in Vilas County.
