About This Access Site
Loon Lake is a scenic 1,095-acre backcountry lake in East Cook, Cook County, offering a quiet paddling experience with excellent water clarity and a firm, sandy bottom. The boat ramp provides convenient access via an ATA-compliant dock and roll-in ramp, with an adjoining wading area for launching kayaks and canoes. The lake's maximum depth of 202 feet and 14 miles of shoreline make it suitable for various water activities, including fishing for bluegill, crappies, bass, northern pike, and bullhead.

This site is part of the Superior National Forest backcountry system and offers access to one pristine, first-come, first-served campsite on the lake—perfect for paddlers seeking a remote overnight getaway. The site includes a fire grate, latrine, and picnic table. Remember to hang food packs, extinguish fires completely, and treat all drinking water. Nearby Trails End Campground offers reservable camping for those who prefer established facilities.
