Love Park

Love Park offers boat access to the upper Waxahachie Creek arm of Bardwell Lake, located on the southeastern shore less than an hour south of Dallas-Fort Worth. The park features two 4-lane boat ramps with parking for approximately 40 vehicles. Note that the upper ramp at Love Park itself is quite shallow at normal lake level and is not recommended for larger vessels or ski boats; the lower ramp at the park's end is better suited for all boat types. A courtesy dock is available for loading and unloading.

**Access & Fees:** From Ennis, take Texas 34 south for about 3/4 mile past the highway bridge, then turn right onto the unpaved park road. A day-use fee of $5.00 per vehicle provides access to boat ramps, picnic areas, and other facilities. **Paddling Context:** Bardwell Lake, built in 1965 for flood control, is situated in the Blackland Prairie region and offers good wildlife habitat. Paddlers can explore the Waxahachie Creek tributary system in a scenic setting with opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing. The area supports deer, armadillos, rabbits, squirrels, and various bird species.

Many local fishermen consider Bardwell Lake one of the best kept secrets in the state. Bass fishermen seldom leave empty-handed. Crappie fishing is moderate, and catfish are usually excellent.
The lake has a marina with fishing piers, two of which are enclosed (a small fee is charged for the use of these facilities), and there are several designated hunting areas around the lake, including those for duck hunting.Facilities
Love Park offers one reservable group picnic pavilion that can accommodate up to 200 people. The facility also provides vault toilets and a four-lane boat ramp.Natural Features
The park is grassy and partially forested. The lake's blue water provides a refreshing break from the Texas heat, while bright bluebonnets and other wildflowers surround the lakeshore each spring.
