Lower Oak Bay Park offers a well-developed boat launch facility on Oak Bay in Port Hadlock-Irondale, making it a convenient access point for kayakers, canoeists, and small boats exploring the Salish Sea area. The site features a car-top/kayak boat ramp, parking (with seasonal vehicle restrictions possible at the south end of Portage Way), vault toilets, and fresh water. A beach area provides direct water access, and eight campsites with picnic tables and fire rings are available nearby for overnight stays.
**Important paddling considerations:** Be aware that tidal currents in the adjacent Portage Canal can reach 3 knots, with rips and large standing waves forming at either end—particularly at low tide. Plan your paddle timing accordingly if venturing into the canal. The site is located within striking distance of scenic destinations like Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve and Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge. For current information on amenities, seasonal access restrictions, and campground reservations, contact the facility directly or visit the Washington State Parks website.
