About This Access Site
The Lower Pool Park boat ramp provides easy access to the Chattahoochee River for kayakers, canoeists, and small trailered boats. The ramp is located below the Buford Dam, which creates the large Lake Sidney Lanier upstream.

The Chattahoochee River is a major southeastern waterway, extending over 400 miles from its headwaters in the north Georgia mountains to the Florida border. At this access point, the river is classified as a 'major river' with an average flow of over 20,000 cubic feet per second and a gradient of 7.7 feet per mile. Paddlers can enjoy scenic views as they navigate this sizeable, fast-flowing river.

The park offers parking, restrooms, and scenic vistas of the river and dam. While the launch site is owned and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, it is part of the larger Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats are welcome to use the ramp, though no services or fees are listed. Paddlers should check conditions before launching and be prepared for the Chattahoochee's powerful current.
