About This Access Site
Lutak Inlet is a popular marine access point located approximately 4 miles north of Haines, Alaska. This boat ramp provides access to Chilkoot Inlet, Lutak Inlet, Taiya Inlet, and the larger Lynn Canal waterway. The ramp was originally constructed over 30 years ago by the Alaska Department of Transportation.

For kayakers and canoeists, Lutak Inlet offers a scenic, sheltered paddle through the inlet's calm waters. The inlet narrows as you approach the Chilkoot River, creating opportunities to spot marine wildlife like seals and sea lions. This section of the inlet is also known for its excellent salmon and trout fishing. Motorized boaters can use the ramp to access the broader Lynn Canal, a major waterway along Alaska's southeastern coast.

While the ramp is open year-round, boaters should be aware of seasonal changes in weather and water conditions. Those planning trips in Lutak Inlet and the surrounding waterways should research tides, currents, and potential hazards before launching. By using this well-established access point, paddlers and boaters can safely enjoy the natural beauty of this scenic Alaskan inlet.
