Mackey Ford Wildlife Area offers access to the Scioto River via an unimproved boat launching area on the western side of the wildlife area near Lockbourne. A parking lot is located south of OH-762 and east of the river. This access point is ideal for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore this section of the Scioto River, which supports populations of bluegill, sunfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and rock bass.
The site is part of a wildlife management area focused on wetland restoration and habitat for migratory waterfowl, so you'll encounter a natural, scenic setting with minimal development. The area includes river trails offering opportunities for hiking and wildlife viewing. For boaters seeking longer float trips, note that there is another improved boat ramp approximately 6 river miles downstream near South Bloomfield, making multi-day paddling trips possible. Contact the ODNR Division of Wildlife at (800) 945-3543 or wildinfo@dnr.state.oh.us for additional information.
