The Maquoketa River Access is a hard surface boat ramp located in Delhi, Delaware County, providing convenient vehicle access to this popular 80-mile paddling and fishing destination. This is one of five developed ramp facilities along the Maquoketa River, making it an ideal put-in or take-out point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters exploring this scenic waterway.
The upper sections of the Maquoketa River are best suited for canoes and small boats, with numerous carry-down access points and five hard surface ramps distributed throughout the river corridor. The area is known for excellent smallmouth bass and walleye fishing, particularly near staging areas like Bailey's Ford County Park. Paddlers should be aware of dam locations downstream and associated portage requirements—notably the canoe portage on the left side of Lakehurst Dam. The nearby Manchester Whitewater Park, featuring six drop structures, is a notable scenic feature for paddlers touring this section.
For planning your trip, check current water conditions before launching, as the river's character varies seasonally. The Delhi access is well-positioned for both day trips and longer river expeditions on this well-established water trail network.
