About This Access Site
The Marion-Cotton Wood boat ramp is located at Marion Cove Campground, just north of Marion Reservoir Dam in Marion, Kansas. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility offers convenient access to Marion Reservoir and the Cottonwood River system. The primitive campground is reservable through Recreation.gov (620-382-2101) and provides a dedicated boat ramp for launching kayaks, canoes, and larger vessels.

Marion Reservoir is a productive fishing destination known for channel catfish, walleye, white bass, and wipers, making it popular with anglers and recreational boaters alike. The Cottonwood River system is a large river (Stream Order 6) with an average flow of about 491 cubic feet per second and moderate gradient of 5.7 feet per mile, providing good water conditions for paddling. Multiple boat ramps are available around the lake for flexible access depending on water conditions and your paddling destination.

Facilities
Marion Cove Campground offers 17 non electric camping sites to our visitors. sites 1-6 all have a picnic shelter along with picnic tables and fire ring. while sites 7-17 offer only a firepit. Marion cove also has a two lane boat launch near by with a community water hydrant located just off of site one.
Natural Features
Completed in 1968, Marion Reservoir encompasses 6,200 acres of water surrounded by 6,000 acres of public lands. The surrounding expanse of forest provides visitors with endless recreational activities, set against the backdrop of the sparkling lake.

The nearby communities of Hillsboro and Marion offer additional tourist attractions. Both cities have a nationally recognized Art and Crafts show, as well as a variety of restaurants and shops.
