About This Access Site
Located in Tyler County near the Big Thicket region, this access point provides boat ramp facilities on B.A. Steinhagen Lake, a 22,745-acre reservoir on the Neches River. The Cherokee Unit offers multiple launch ramps suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats, with dedicated parking for boat trailers and camping options nearby. The scenic area is known for abundant wildlife including deer, hogs, and waterfowl, making it popular for both recreation and hunting.

Paddlers will find nearly 14 miles of dedicated paddling trails that cross sloughs, the main Neches River channel, and the lake proper—offering diverse paddling experiences depending on your skill level and preferred route. Access the North ramp by taking Park Road 48 past the Nature Center, or use the west-side ramp near where Highway 190 crosses the reservoir. With camping available at nearby Campers Cove and within the park itself, this is a solid base for extended paddling trips in one of Texas's most scenic freshwater lake systems.
