Mayer State Park, located near Rowena in the Columbia River Gorge, offers a public boat ramp for access to the Columbia River. This is part of the Lake Celilo reservoir system formed by The Dalles Dam, located approximately two miles east of The Dalles. The ramp is free to use and includes a loaner kiosk with personal flotation devices (PFDs) for paddlers and boaters.
The park provides solid day-use amenities including picnic tables, restrooms, barbecue grills, beach access, and a scenic viewpoint. Paid parking is available (day or annual passes). The site is particularly popular with salmon anglers and offers excellent views of the Columbia River Valley. During summer months, water quality is monitored weekly for E. coli by Columbia Riverkeeper. The calm reservoir waters behind The Dalles Dam make this a good access point for kayakers and canoeists exploring the Gorge.
