About This Access Site
The Mayersville ramp, locally known as "the Asphalt," provides public access to the Mississippi River at the chute to Island 63 in Issaquena County. Located just across the levee in Mayersville, this access point opens to views of the Mighty Mississippi and offers opportunities to observe commercial tow boat traffic. The ramp is suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and small boats.

Be aware that access conditions are water-level dependent—the ramp is usable down to approximately -2 feet on the Helena Gauge with 3 feet of depth over the shoal. The Mississippi River at this location is a major waterway with significant flow (average 685,000+ cubic feet per second) and current velocity of approximately 11 feet per second. Paddlers should be experienced with strong current conditions and large river navigation. The river's low gradient (0.8 ft/mile) means strong current rather than whitewater, but power boats and commercial traffic require constant awareness.

This is a basic public access point ideal for launching day trips and fishing. Plan your visit around water levels and always check current conditions before heading out on this powerful, high-traffic section of the Mississippi River.
