About This Access Site
**Location & Access:** Bullhead Lake (Lake #7) is located within the Mazonia/Braidwood State Fish and Wildlife Area, approximately 3 miles southwest of Braidwood in Grundy County. The site is accessible via Illinois Route 53 and Huston Road near Gardner. This inland lake offers a quieter paddling alternative to the more heavily-used Eagle and Ponderosa Lakes within the park system.

**Facilities & Conditions:** A gravel boat ramp is available at this site, though users should be aware that gravel ramps throughout the Mazonia area have experienced erosion and occasional washouts that may impact usability, particularly after heavy rain. Minimal facilities are currently available at the site, though future development is planned to include improved paved access roads, expanded boat launches, parking areas, and restroom facilities. For the most current conditions, contact Mazonia/Braidwood State Fish and Wildlife Area at 815-237-0063.

**Recreation Opportunities:** The lake is open to fishing with channel catfish (6 fish daily limit) and largemouth bass (15" minimum length; 3 fish daily limit). The site sits within Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, northeastern Illinois's largest public open space, offering opportunities for nature observation and birding alongside paddling and fishing. Winter access may be limited to one entrance depending on road conditions.
