McArthur Lake is a shallow reservoir located between Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry in northern Idaho, offering a popular spot for fishing and recreational boating. The boat ramp is located in the northeast corner of the water management area and accommodates both motorized and non-motorized watercraft. Watercraft with shallow draft and small motors are recommended due to the lake's shallow nature. A fishing dock is also available for anglers, and the lake is stocked with yellow perch, sunfish, largemouth bass, brook trout, and rainbow trout.
**Important Note:** McArthur Lake undergoes a significant summer drawdown beginning June 1st each year, lasting four to six weeks. During this period, both the boat ramp and fishing dock become unusable as water levels drop substantially. Plan your visit accordingly—the lake is most accessible from late summer through fall and winter months. The nearby Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge adds to the area's outdoor recreation opportunities, with diverse wildlife viewing in a scenic mountain setting.
