The McGinnis Ferry boat ramp provides access to the Chattahoochee River, a major headwater stream with a total length of 435 miles and an average flow of over 20,000 cubic feet per second. This launch site is suitable for power boats, canoes, kayaks, rafts, and tubes. The small parking area may fill up quickly, so arrive early, especially on weekends.
The Chattahoochee River in this section has an average gradient of 7.7 feet per mile, creating some rocky shoals and moderate current. Paddlers should be prepared for these conditions and check the latest E. coli levels before launching, as high counts may limit or prohibit water contact. The river is part of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, which offers numerous access points and recreational opportunities upstream and downstream of McGinnis Ferry.
