About This Access Site
The McKenzie Lake boat ramp in Frederic provides public access to a sprawling 1,129-acre lake system in the Burnett and Washburn County area. This is an excellent launching point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore a substantial body of water with good depth (maximum 71 feet) and moderately clear waters. The lake supports a diverse fishery including musky, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, panfish, and sturgeon, making it popular with anglers as well as recreational paddlers.

The McKenzie Lake system actually consists of three connected lakes—the main McKenzie Lake, Middle McKenzie Lake (527 acres, 45-foot maximum depth), and Lower McKenzie Lake (206 acres, shallower at 17 feet)—offering paddlers multiple options to explore. The moderately clear water conditions on the upper portions make for pleasant paddling, though water clarity decreases on Lower McKenzie Lake. Whether you're planning a casual paddle or a longer expedition across the interconnected lakes, this public boat landing provides convenient access for launching canoes and kayaks into this scenic northern Wisconsin waterway.
