McKenzie Lake

Located at the south end of McKenzie Lake in Clearwater County, this boat ramp provides a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats. The paved ramp is in good condition and is suitable for launching canoes and kayaks, though users should note that it has a somewhat steep grade. A decontamination station is available on-site to help prevent the spread of zebra mussels and other invasive species.

**Important guidelines:** No firearms or hunting are permitted on the lake property, and parking or picnicking on the ramp or turnaround area is prohibited. There are no launch fees unless a vehicle permit is required for the specific access area. The ramp can accommodate most boats up to 12-18 feet, depending on conditions.

Paddlers should be aware that if exploring upstream on the McKenzie River beyond the lake, the waterway transitions to moving water with significant hazards downstream, including Marten Rapids (Class 3+), which requires experienced paddlers. For a safer multi-day paddle, consider taking out at Ben & Kay Dorris County Park to avoid these dangerous sections.
