The Route 52 boat ramp (Barrett's Cove area) offers free public access to Megunticook Lake, a scenic mountain lake in Camden with clean, clear water ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and boating. Located on Mountain Road just past Beaucaire Avenue, this south-end launch features deeper water suitable for larger boats, making it a better option than the shallow Route 105 launch on the opposite shore. The ramp is accessible year-round at sunrise to sunset, with public toilets available during summer months.
Paddlers should be prepared for potentially windy conditions on this mountain lake. Note that jet skis are prohibited, keeping the water quieter for kayakers and canoeists. The launch area has limited trailer parking; the Route 105 location across the lake offers more trailer parking if you prefer that option. The undeveloped shoreline and mountain backdrop make this a pleasant destination for a full day of paddling, particularly during warmer months when swimming is also an option.
