About This Access Site
Mermet State Lake offers a convenient public boat launch for paddlers and boaters in Massac County, approximately 10 miles north of Metropolis, Illinois. The access site features four launching ramps suitable for canoes, kayaks, and motorboats. Motors up to 10 horsepower are permitted on the water. The 452-acre lake is shallow with a maximum depth of 12 feet, making it suitable for paddling and recreational boating without significant hazards from deep water or strong currents.

The site is easily accessible via paved roads to the State Fish and Wildlife Area, with gravel roads within the property that should accommodate most vehicles. Mermet Lake is known for excellent fishing opportunities, including catfish, largemouth bass, and crappie, so expect to encounter anglers alongside paddlers. The lake's shallow, calm waters make it ideal for kayakers and canoeists of various skill levels. Nearby, the Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge and Ohio River Pool 52 offer additional paddling and recreation options in the region.
