About This Access Site
Located directly off Route 11 a few miles south of Alton in New Durham, Merrymeeting Marsh offers a public boat ramp for cartop boats, canoes, and kayaks at the northern end of the water body. The entrance can be easily missed, so watch carefully when approaching from the highway. A parking area is available for launching paddlers and anglers.

Merrymeeting Marsh spans approximately 70 acres and is characterized by shallow water, heavily vegetated margins, and seasonal water flow. The wetlands include emergent marshes, deep-water areas, scrub-shrub habitat, and forested bogs, with surrounding uplands featuring oak and white pine forests. The waterway is fed by the Merrymeeting River and Coffin Brook, making it ideal for calm-water paddling and wildlife observation.

Please note that swimming is not permitted at this NH Fish and Game facility, and the ramp may occasionally close for maintenance. Check ahead if planning a visit, as facility closures can occur without notice.
