About This Access Site
Metaline Waterfront Park is a community access point on the Pend Oreille River in the town of Metaline, Washington, located upstream of Metaline Falls on the western shore. The park offers a kayak/canoe ramp, trailer parking, picnic areas, a group shelter with fire pit, and restroom facilities—making it suitable for day-use boating and paddling activities. The park is open year-round but may experience occasional flooding during spring months (late May to early June).

The Pend Oreille River at this location is a major river system with significant flow (averaging over 26,000 cubic feet per second) and moderate current velocity of approximately 9.84 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for a substantial, fast-moving waterway. Metaline serves as an access point for the Pend Oreille River Water Trail, which extends 70 miles downstream to Boundary Dam, passing through notable features including Metaline Falls Rapid and a scenic canyon reach with dramatic rock walls. Nearby Edgewater Campground (about 2 miles away) offers overnight accommodations for those planning extended trips. Those paddling longer sections should come prepared with adequate supplies, wear a PFD, and be aware that road access is limited between put-in and take-out points.
