**Location & Access**
Metts Bluff is a boat ramp facility located on the Yellow River within the Eglin Air Force Base Wildlife Management Area in Okaloosa County, Florida. The ramp provides access to the Yellow River downstream of Highway 87, situated on the river-left (upstream) side of the HWY 87 Bridge. This is a convenient take-out point for paddlers coming downstream from upper launch points like Boiling Creek.
**Practical Information**
A permit is required to access this recreation area—Eglin AFB Wildlife Management Area permits are available online at https://eglin.isportsman.net or from the Eglin AFB Natural Resources Office (Jackson Guard) at 107 Hwy 85 N in Niceville. The Yellow River in this area features slow, meandering current with deep holes and dark tannin-stained waters typical of Northwest Florida's flatland rivers. Paddlers should expect easy to moderate conditions suitable for kayakers and canoeists of various skill levels.
**Note for River Runners**
If you're planning a multi-day trip, camping is available at Metts Bluff Recreation Area with the proper permit. The site serves as an ideal endpoint for longer paddles originating from upstream launch points like Boiling Creek Bridge or Boiling Creek Boat Ramp.
