About This Access Site
Mickelson's Landing is a public boat ramp providing access to Pool 13 of the Mississippi River in the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge near Fulton, Illinois. Located off the Lock and Dam 13 entrance road (north of Fulton, turning left near the Sand Prairie area), the landing offers a developed launch area with two fishing docks with benches, an informational kiosk, and pit toilet facilities. This is a popular spot for both anglers and recreational boaters exploring the river and its backwater channels.
Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for the Mississippi's substantial current—the river averages about 11.24 feet per second flow velocity in this region. As a major waterway (Stream Order 10) with considerable volume and power, the Mississippi demands respect and proper safety precautions, especially in variable water conditions.
