**Location & Access:** Located at Mile Post 8 on Yakima Canyon Highway near Yakima in Kittitas County, this public boat ramp provides access to the scenic Yakima River Canyon. The parking area includes six designated accessible spaces distributed throughout the lot with proper access aisles for mobility devices.
**River Character & Trip Planning:** This access point launches paddlers into the beautiful 27-mile Yakima River Canyon, where the gentle river winds through rolling desert hills and dramatic basalt cliffs rising over 2,000 feet. The stretch downstream from Mile Post 8 extends approximately 12.3 miles to the Ellensburg diversion dam, which requires portaging or caution when water levels are high. Plan for a full day of paddling (at least 6 hours at a leisurely fishing pace) if running this section. The Yakima River offers a mellow floating experience through striking canyon scenery, making it popular for kayaking, canoeing, and rafting.
**Important Note:** Currently, there is limited walk-and-wade opportunity at this site without bushwhacking. Paddlers should be aware of the diversion dam downstream and plan their trip accordingly, as portaging may be necessary depending on flow conditions.
