Millerton Lake State Recreation Area offers excellent boating and paddling opportunities on the expansive Millerton Lake. The lake is formed by the Friant Dam on the San Joaquin River, part of the Central Valley Project's Friant Division.
For boaters, the park features three well-maintained boat ramps, two large 10-lane ramps on the south side and a smaller 2-lane ramp on the north side near the Meadows Campground. The north ramp has been extended significantly during drought conditions to maintain access. Parking is available near each of the boat launches. Millerton Lake's 40+ miles of shoreline provide ample space for water sports, fishing, and exploration by kayak or canoe.
Anglers will find the lake well-stocked with bass, catfish, crappie, and trout. A network of hiking trails around the lake also provides opportunities for shore-based recreation. The Millerton Lake Visitor Center, open weekends, offers information about the lake's natural and cultural history. Campsites are available at several campgrounds within 10 miles of the boat ramps, providing convenient access for boaters and paddlers.
