Millerton Lake State Recreation Area offers excellent opportunities for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters on the scenic Millerton Lake. The lake is formed by the Friant Dam on the San Joaquin River and provides over 40 miles of shoreline for water sports, fishing, and exploration.
The recreation area features multiple boat ramps for easy access to the water. Two large 10-lane boat ramps are located on the south side of the lake, while a single 2-lane ramp is situated near the Meadows Campground on the north shore. These ramps provide convenient launch points for day-use boaters and paddlers. Nearby campgrounds, including Aholul Group Campground, Equestrian Campground, and Ya-Gub-Weh-tuh Campground, offer accommodations for those looking to spend more time on the water.
The San Joaquin River Gorge Visitor Center, open Friday through Sunday, is a great resource for exploring the local flora, fauna, and history of the area. Visitors can expect to see a variety of wildlife, including ground squirrels, cottontails, mule deer, bald and golden eagles, and badgers, while enjoying the scenic lake and surrounding hills.
